Ben Kilpatrick, alias "The Tall Texan," was second in command of the Wild Bunch. On November 8, 1901, St. Louis police captured Kilpatrick and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Released in 1911, he quickly took up his old train-robbing ways and stopped the Union Pacific's Sunset Flyer on March 14, 1912. The guard in the baggage car tricked Kilpatrick to look the other way while he picked up an ice mallet and smashed the outlaw's skull - killing him instantly.
