Ribbentrop was an early supporter of the Nazi movement and advised Hitler on foreign policy matters before the Nazis gained power. He was appointed Germany's Foreign Minister in 1938. He played a major role in Germany's annexation of Czechoslovakia and in negotiating the non-aggression treaty with the Soviet Union that led to the invasion of Poland. He was also instrumental in organizing the deportation of Jews in Nazi-occupied countries to Germany for extermination. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit crimes, crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. |
