Pittston, Pa., January 16, 1911

From the notes of Lewis Hine:
"Breaker boys. Smallest is Angelo Ross.
Hughestown Borough Coal Co. Pittston, Pa."
"Breaker Boys" were used in the anthracite coal mines to separate slate rock from the coal after it had been brought out of the shaft. They often worked 14 to 16 hours a day.
